Begin with the installed system
Use the point in travel, door position, and connected components to describe noise before choosing a repair.
Observe the full door from a safe position and record where movement, sound, alignment, or control response changes. A symptom at one component can begin elsewhere in the shared spring, cable, track, roller, panel, opener, or support system.
Keep the safety boundary clear
Stop operating a crooked, hanging, off-track, unusually heavy, or visibly damaged door. Do not loosen springs, drums, lift cables, bottom brackets, or supporting hardware. Manufacturer instructions and the installed configuration control compatibility and adjustment.
Document the decision
Keep the opener model, visible spring layout, door material, symptoms, parts identified, and checks completed. Good records make repair-versus-replacement decisions easier to compare without inventing a diagnosis.
